Margaret-Mary Friel, or ‘MM’ as she’s better known, has accumulated a grand total of 37 years within the company, firstly Dalzell & Campbell, Tom Clarke & Co, then Clarke Shipway to Edmond Shipway and now esc. As a result, MM has friends all over the world as anyone who has worked with esc has stayed in touch with her.
“In my 37 years with the company I’ve seen some changes, going from just 3 in the office to a team of 14. We have gone from strength to strength, and to see people grow within the company makes me proud.”
MM’s most loved project over the years is the Restoration of Belfast Castle. “Denis Haslam, who was the Architect, was such a lovely man and a font of all knowledge. He left his impression on me.” MM is office based and wouldn’t normally be on site. However, she got to visit the IFA National Stadium: “I got a private viewing of that, and whilst I’m not the best football fan in the world, I was very impressed with the stadium especially the Education & Heritage Centre.”
When MM’s not working she loves to dust down her old 45’s and LP’s and play them on her very old record player.
