Student Quantity Surveyor Aaron Carson shares his advice on what to consider:
Start as soon as possible. It’s never too early
- Follow companies on social media. If they are recruiting they’ll normally post on social media or their website
- Decide which career route you’d like to take – private quantity surveying practice like esc or contractor
- Research the companies you’re considering; do you like the work they do? Do they work outside NI – therefore will you have to travel?
- Prepare your CV well before you send it. How could your CV could stand out from the rest? Being self-motivated is a key skill esc looks out for. You’ll need to demonstrate your key skills.
Andrew’s mentor Gavin Morgan said “A few years back we were contacted by an Upper Sixth Pupil who knew he wanted to do quantity surveying and wanted some practical experience during the summer before starting his further education. This young student demonstrated to us that he was certainly self-motivated and determined to stay ahead of his peers. He worked with us for two months.”
It's never too early to start looking for a student placement
At esc we are always happy to hear from placement students. Feel free to speak with Claire Mullan or Gavin Morgan 028 9077 9392 or send your CV to belfast@escconsult.co.uk telling us why you’d like to work with esc.
