The South West College Erne Campus in Enniskillen, on which esc construction consultants were Project Managers and Cost Consultants, has been named the UK Project of the Year by the RICS.
At the celebrated awards ceremony held in London last Friday 21 October this exemplar project also won the UK Public Sector Project award. These awards recognise industry leading achievements, teamwork, and companies and demonstrate the upholding of the highest standards of professionalism.
The £34m Erne Campus yields an anticipated 90% reduction in energy costs and provides an international exemplar in the achievement of nearly Zero Energy Building for the Public Sector. It is the world’s first educational, and currently the largest, Passive House Premium (PHP) rated building and the first building in the UK to achieve both PHP and BREEAM Outstanding accreditation.
Judge Malcolm Young FRICS said:
“Despite the many obstacles that it needed to overcome; this project is exemplar. Not only has it generated a centre for excellence for local students of the built environment as a core curriculum subject, but it has also raised the profile and the pride in all its inhabitants and neighbours in an area that has suffered much in recent times.”
The 8000sqm new build Erne Campus boasts a large PV array providing renewable energy generation of 120 Kwh/m2/year, along with ultra-modern facilities for 2,800 students. Opened in September 2021, it has already been recognised by the awarding of several world-class sustainability accolades and is one of 26 UN Centres of Excellence for High Performance Buildings around the world ranking it alongside the Apple 2 campus in California in terms of sustainable innovation and design.
esc Director Pat Mullan said:
“We are delighted to have been Project Managers and Cost Consultants for the RICS National Project of the Year, the South West College’s Erne Campus building. This is a fantastic achievement for our Client, their funders and the wider design and construction teams. There was a collective vision, commitment and expertise to deliver this project from the earliest stages.
We are incredibly proud that the Campus has been recognised by the RICS for its innovative sustainability credentials and the impact it is having on the environment, community and the economy locally in Fermanagh and Tyrone. This was a complex project and many obstacles were overcome by esc and the wider team who worked collaboratively to deliver the Client’s vision for this exceptional project.”
The SWC Erne Campus is already setting standards for educational buildings globally.
Congratulations to everyone involved in the project.
