esc construction consultants is delighted that Belfast City Council has approved planning permission for the comprehensive redevelopment of the BetMcLean Oval Stadium, home ground of Glentoran Football Club.
esc is providing Quantity Surveying services as part of the Hamilton Architects led design team to deliver the ambitious redevelopment which will transform the East Belfast venue into a modern UEFA Category 3 stadium.
The proposed project involves demolishing the current stands, which have stood since 1953, and replacing them with two new all-seater spectator stands which will provide 4,500 person capacity. Existing standing terracing at goal ends will also be reconfigured to provide an additional 1,500 person capacity, along with provision of new artificial pitch, new turnstiles and associated siteworks, including new floodlighting.
Facilities to be provided over 3-storeys include a fitness & medical centre, and high-quality conferencing and function facilities with potential for community use.
This planning approval marks a crucial milestone in Glentoran Football Club’s vision to create a contemporary, multi-purpose venue. The redeveloped stadium is designed to serve not only the club and its supporters but also to provide valuable community resources and advance football development throughout Northern Ireland.
Glentoran has submitted a robust application to the Northern Ireland Football Fund and is currently awaiting the outcome of the funding process.
