Listening is an essential skill for every Quantity Surveyor and Project Manager.
We listen to clients to understand their priorities. We listen to project teams to identify challenges. We listen to different perspectives to help find the right solutions.
But this World Mental Health Day (Saturday 10th October), we’re thinking about listening in a different way.
The 2026 theme, “Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change”, reminds us of the importance of giving people the space to talk – and taking the time to really listen to what they have to say.
In a busy working environment, it can be easy to ask “How are you?” without really stopping to hear the answer.
At esc construction consultants, we recognise that good communication isn’t just important for delivering successful projects. Taking the time to check in, listen and support each other is also an important part of creating a positive and supportive workplace.
So this World Mental Health Day, perhaps the question isn’t simply “How are you?”
It’s “Are we really listening to the answer?”
