Work has commenced on the restoration of four historic war memorials across the Derry City and Strabane District, located at The Diamond in Derry City Centre, Castlederg, Sion Mills and Strabane.
esc construction consultants is providing Project Management and Quantity Surveying services as part of the Consarc Conservation Architects-led design team. Conservation specialists Irish Stone have been appointed to deliver the works.
The three-month programme will include specialist stone repointing and cleaning, conservation of bronze elements, painting, landscaping improvements and measures to enhance accessibility.
Funded by the Special EU Programmes Body through the PEACE Plus Programme, the project will protect these important heritage assets while promoting greater understanding of the area’s shared history. A cross-community outreach programme will also engage schools, community organisations and local groups in conversations around heritage, remembrance, peace and reconciliation.

The works at The Diamond will complement the wider City Deal streetscape and lighting improvements planned for Derry City Centre, further enhancing one of the city’s most significant civic spaces.
